How Long Does TMS Take?

Comparing Standard and Accelerated TMS Protocols
When starting TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) treatment, one of the most common questions patients ask is:
“How long is this going to take?”
The answer depends on the treatment protocol, Standard or Accelerated, and your individual needs. At Inspire TMS Denver, we offer both options to meet our patients where they are in their healing journey.
Standard TMS Protocol
- Schedule: 5 sessions per week (Monday to Friday)
- Duration: Around 6–8 weeks
- Time per session: 20–30 minutes
- Total sessions: Typically 36
This protocol gives your brain time to respond and adapt to treatment over several weeks. It’s the most widely used and researched approach, ideal for those who prefer a steady, measured pace of care.

Accelerated TMS Protocol
- Schedule: 10 sessions daily, over 5 consecutive days
- Duration: Just 1 week
- Time per day: Roughly 5 hours (with breaks between sessions)
- Total sessions: 50
Our Accelerated TMS protocol is designed for faster relief - ideal for patients who are highly motivated, time-constrained, or experiencing more urgent symptoms. Patients are closely monitored during the process and often experience quicker symptom improvement.
Which One Is Right for You?
Choosing between standard and accelerated protocols depends on:
- Symptom severity
- Time constraints
- Medical history
- Prior treatment experiences
- Doctor recommendation
We’ll guide you through that decision based on clinical assessment and your preferences.
