Deep TMS vs Standard TMS
Deep TMS ads pick their best number. Here's the fair comparison - measured the same way on both sides.
Depression results
Both measured on the PHQ-9 — a survey patients fill in themselves.
Improved a lot
Symptoms largely gone
Inspire: tracked in our own clinic (294 patients). Deep TMS: Brainsway's published study, same survey.

The big "81.6%" Deep TMS number in ads comes from a mix of measurements - including ones scored by clinic staff, which tend to come out higher.

On the survey you fill out yourself (the PHQ-9), that same study found 71.4%.

On that same survey, our own tracked results are
85.4% - as good or better than Deep TMS.
Where the "81.6%" come from
Deep TMS ads usually point to one large study published by the company that makes the device. Across "any" measurement it used, it shows about 81.6% response and 65.3% remission.
The catch: the results looked best on measurements scored by clinic staff, and lower on the survey the patient fills out themselves. When the best-scoring number becomes the headline, it looks bigger than everyday clinic reality.

Same study, two different numbers
The same study scores lower on the survey you fill in yourself than on the scale used in ads.
Same patients, same study — only the scale changed.
Source: study published by Brainsway, the Deep TMS device maker.

Compare in the same way on both sides
A fair comparison uses the same measurement for everyone. Put both results on the PHQ-9 survey, and the picture is clear: our own tracked outcomes match or beat the published Deep TMS figures - without needing a deeper, broader coil and the extra side-effect risk that can come with it. We track every patient's scores in our clinic. Nothing here is a company projection.
Why we report on the survey you fill in

Deep TMS vs Standard TMS at Inspire
| Deep TMS (Brainsway) | Standard TMS at Inspire | |
|---|---|---|
| Where the numbers come from | Study published by the device maker | Outcomes we track in our own clinic |
| Depression — improved a lot | 71.4% | 85.4% |
| Depression — symptoms largely gone | 44% | 46.6% |
| How many patients | Large group across many clinics | 294 patients |
| OCD — improved a lot | 57.9% | 70.8% |
| FDA-approved | Yes (for depression, OCD) | Yes (many types) |
| The coil (how the pulses reach the brain) | Deeper, broader pulses | Focused, targeted pulses |
How to read these numbers
These aren't from one trial testing both side by side. The Deep TMS figures come from published studies of that device; the Inspire figures are what we track across our own patients — so the groups, and the way improvement is counted, differ. The OCD comparison especially rests on a small Inspire sample (24 patients), so treat it as a helpful indicator, not a promise. Individual results vary.
